Moby is a project, launched by Atac in 2003, conceived for passengers of public transport vehicles. Its purpose is to display two kinds of information: information concerning mobility and the public transport system (exceptional events, temporary modification of the scheduled service, help and directions for using ticket stamping machines, electronic tickets etc.); and information about entertainment and leisure time (touristic places, latest news updated in real-time, special events, weather, horoscope).
The system is made up of two main components: a Data Center and an on-board system. Information is generated and stored on the Data Center, and transmitted via the GPRS network to a computer on board of vehicles. The computer displays messages to passengers using two LCD monitors.
The system is installed on 870 buses: generally, on buses that travel inside the historic center of Rome, and on other bus lines frequented by tourists.
